"Choose from the sounds that even now sleep on your tongue...tangled among them and terribly new is the sentence that could change your life."--Marie Howe
Write of Passage is an invitation to the marriage of movement and writing, two spirited paths to intimacy with ourselves and each other. Everything we’ve experienced lives on in our bodies. Here we learn to dip our pen into an endless stream of unleashed creativity. Movement opens the gate. Simple writing exercises shift our task from trying to think things up to simply jotting them down — as words, memories, images surge from body to hand to page.
No need to write an old, polished litany. Just list everything on the floor of your car, describe what you wore when you were 16, remember the first lie you told or the last three things that made you cry. If you love to write, this is heaven. If you think you’re not a writer, think again. And prepare to be surprised.
Prerequisites: a body of any size or shape, a pen, experience with heartbreak, a childhood, two or more fears, quiet passions, quirky habits, a strong opinion, something you yearn for. All welcome – recommend some experience of instructed conscious dance practice.
Lori Says: The dance floor has been my home, work, laboratory, meditation cushion, classroom, playground and community for 37 years, both as a teacher and eternal student. My teaching passion is blending movement with writing and meditation. Each form deepens the others in a spiral of intimacy, laughter, authenticity, and extraordinary compassion in this challenging assignment called being human. I’ve also worked as a corporate management consultant, women’s reproductive rights counselor, writer, community clinic director, counseling trainer, sex education teacher, really terrible waitress, whitewater rafting guide, and pool hall manager.
